Jane Walkley

About Jane Walkley

Jane Walkley is a UK based visual artist exploring the interplay between memory, place and attachment.  Jane uses traditional tapestry techniques whilst incorporating jesmonite, an eco-friendly resin, which she casts by hand in her studio in Leeds. The finished work takes on a sculptural and tactile quality that maintains a physical and visual connection to the site she is researching, linking place, memory, and materiality.

I use traditional tapestry techniques whilst incorporating jesmonite, an eco-friendly resin, which I cast by hand in my studio here at Sunny Bank Mills.  I guess you could describe it as traditional craft meets new material technology. I do find it useful to have a craft at the bedrock of my practice as it gives me a rule book to fall back on and educate myself with. I don’t necessarily stick to the rule book but it’s useful to know what rules I’m breaking.
