Nicholas Vaughan

Nicholas Vaughan is a visual artist with a varied practice from sculpture to drawing and installations, His art practice is an exploration of social issues with an interest in communities, how they are represented and what that says about the culture they are part of.

‘Surrealists Bestiary Hunting Trophy’ has been made using a taxidermist’s foam mannequin. It depicts a deer’s head that has been fabricated from a combination of real and artificial materials, such as leather and fur. It has bright pink paint worked into the snakeskin surface, and plastic buckles taken from purses and wallets which have been magpie-d from cheap and crass bits of jewellery found in charity shops. This is the signature style of ‘Rogue Taxidermy’, an aesthetic which the artist is attempting to imitate, and is described as pop art surrealism.
