Anastasia Borodina

Anastasia Borodina is a contemporary artist who works in traditional techniques and mediums, studying the transformation of traditional symbols of European culture in modern society.

Through her work, Anastasia explores how an individual communicates with the contemporary world surrounding them and seeks out support in the form of rituals, signs, and visual forms as human society changes and shifts over time. She is fascinated by the ways in which people resonate with ritual or mythological forms that were understandable and familiar to people of past ages. In her research, Anastasia does not limit herself to one figurative language, selecting the most appropriate way of expressing each object using traditional fine art media.

Growing up in the North Caucasus and graduating with honours from the Ilya Repin’s Academy of Arts in Saint-Petersburg, Anastasia was inspired by the history and culture of the people from Western Asia. In the academy, she learned from the best representatives of the Russian classical school of painting in the workshop of renowned artist Yuri Kalyuta. Currently, she is living and working in Manchester, developing her oriental series of works and, in parallel, working on adapting the language of the classical school of painting to the modern artistic perception of objects surrounding us.
