Beatrice Lee Knowles is an artist, creative facilitator and play activator, based in Sheffield.
Her sculptural practice uses textiles combined with everyday found objects to create installations that ignite play. By playing and exercising in world-building, her work reframes the materials that we collect, treasure, discard, reuse, frame or hide.
She aims to empower people with the skills and ways of thinking to imagine every material’s potential to live as an artwork. This is done through spontaneous construction, collaborative making, sensory resources and learning opportunities.
Beatrice specialises in creating play opportunities for young children, vulnerable people, neurodivergent people and cross-cultural Global Majority communities.
The use of food has recently become the focal point within the work she is creating. The role food plays within a child’s early development, and in the coming together of communities are of particular interest to Beatrice. The outcomes explore scale, texture, function and play.
