Book Binding Workshop

28th February 2016 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Create a Hand Bound Sketchbook in this Book Binding workshop with artist Timid Elk!

Each individual will learn the founding principles of bookbinding and get a chance to handle and use industry standard tools and materials.

Timid Elk will be demonstrating and guiding the group on how to create a coptic stitched sketchbook. The covers of the books will be decorated using a selection of vintage ordinance survey maps and each one will be completely unique.

Price includes all materials, and a light homemade lunch and refreshments.

Timid Elk is a Leeds based designer/maker. Originally trained in ceramics but found more joy in creating the paper test pieces.

As a result, primarily works in paper and is currently exploring the theme of repetition in the curious commodities collection.

Repetition (noun) – occur again in the same way or form.

The potential that repetition can bestow on an item is fascinating; the most rudimentary of objects can evolve into something grandiose, something which far exceeds its previous status. It transforms the insignificant and overlooked.

Whilst each piece created is unique an intermittent sense of familiarity is apparent throughout the collection.
