Design Your Own Lampshade Workshop
June 28 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Spend a Sunday in the Spinning Mill Studios with local textiles designer, Faye Hall and create your own bespoke drum lampshade!
Exploring marks and imagery through stitch, print and paint, you will work towards creating your own individual length of fabric which will be transformed into your own drum lampshade to take home. No art experience required- you will be coached through making swatches of interesting designs before committing to something more final, through experimenting with various ways you can create marks on fabric through using different everyday items.
You may wish to come with a colour scheme in mind, or decide on the day through experimenting with the different paints and embroidery threads. (Stitching into your design is also optional- you may prefer just a printed/painted fabric to use!) The drum size Faye will provide is 30cm wide and 21cm high, and can be used as a ceiling light or on a floor/table lamp base. Faye will provide a neutral calico fabric for the base, but if you would prefer to bring along a similar weight fabric in a colour of your own choosing, then please do- just message Faye beforehand so she can give you the dimensions and ensure that the fabric properties will work with our drum base.
Faye will bring some materials to use, but feel free to bring anything laying around the house that you think might be interesting to print with, (foliage, string, plastic inserts from food packaging, scrunched paper, tin foil, textured wallpaper etc., etc., all make excellent objects to make marks with!) and it is advised to not wear your best clothes.
