Drypoint Etching Workshop with Lucy Gell

20th November 2016 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

£50

Drypoint etching is produced by using a sharp tool to score into the surface of the plate in this case acrylic. As the acrylic is transparent the participant can place drawings or other imagery underneath to in effect trace an image. This makes the process easier for those who have not had any experience in printmaking. Experimenting can take place with the inking process and this will be evident with the possibility of multiple prints during the day.

Print making is an exciting medium and with little or no experience fantastic creative results can be achieved.

About Lucy Gell

After studying graphic design and illustration at Staffordshire University Lucy pursued a career in puppet animation where she worked at Cosgrove Hall Films in Manchester. Lucy attended an evening course in printmaking during that time and became fascinated with the process.

Lucy’s images are inspired by the love she have for animals, illustrating the unique personalities she sees in them. Printmaking techniques allow her to explore and achieve different unique images with depth and texture. Lucy uses various printmaking methods to illustrate this with her characters.

Inspiration comes from her background as a puppet animator. Lucy animated on children’s programmes such as Postman Pat and Andy Pandy. Giving character and personality was a key part of being a puppet animator and Lucy considers her earlier career has influenced the images that she produces today.

Suitable for beginners.

Price includes lunch and refreshments.
