Half Term Drop In Comicky Fun With Si Smith

29th October 2019 @ 10:00 am - 31st October 2019 @ 3:30 pm

pay as you feel

Come down to the Panel Show exhibition and join us in the gallery this half term for drop in family sessions with Si Smith, a real-life artist.

Some of his comics are a bit serious, but some of them are daft (and a bit rude too.)

He’ll be drawing and making and reading some comics: and he’s here to help you design a superhero, invent some impressive sound effects, and to make your own completely awesome (and possibly quite rude) comics.

Pay as you feel – donation to materials.

RSVP to let us know you are coming. Or just drop in!

Sessions: 29th October: 10-12.30pm and 1-3.30pm

31st October: 10-12.30pm and 1-3.30pm

Book here:

Si Smith is a Leeds-based illustrator and comics artist.

He is also one of the co-curators of the Panel Show exhibition.

For as long as he can remember Si Smith has been an avid draw-er of stuff. Maybe it’s in his genes – his father paints and exhibits, his grandfather was also an artist and his brother is a graphic designer and cartoonist. He was born in Leicester in 1966, and he currently resides in north Leeds with his wife Sue and their sons Eddie and Jonah.

During the course of his relatively uneventful life Si has been in a documentary on BBC2, witnessed Gary Lineker’s football league debut and spent five and a bit years teaching in a primary school. Si has also drawn a lot of stuff, author-illustrating three children’s books for HarperCollins and producing work for a range of clients including OUP, Scholastic, the BBC, Heinemann, Reed and Macmillan. Represented by the Beehive Illustration agency, he has over twenty years’ experience as a freelance illustrator.

Valley Press published his graphic novel How to Disappear Completely, a tale of loss and loneliness in Leeds, in February 2018; and he has since completed two more Leeds-based comic projects – ‘Abide With Me’ and ‘Signs’, both of which were created in collaboration with Leeds Church Institute.
