Heritage Weekend

8th September 2017 @ 10:00 am - 10th September 2017 @ 4:00 pm

We love opening our doors for this annual event which seems to grow year on year.

The Mills opens its doors on Friday 8th to Sunday 10th September 2017 between 10:00 and 16:00 as part of England’s biggest free heritage festival.

Dating from 1829, the mills were an important woollen & worsted mill, with a fascinating history. Although it ceased manufacturing only 9 years ago, it is still owned by the family who helped found the mill in late Georgian times.

The atmospheric mills contain many artefacts to take you back in time to the days it employed over 900 people spinning and weaving some of the finest cloth in the world.

There will be mill tours on the hour, every hour on Saturday and Sunday, (and at 11am and 2pm on Friday 8th!) to take you through buildings normally closed to the public.  Bringing to life the rich history of the mill and the people involved over the centuries. See the regeneration of these wonderful buildings by the Gaunt family and the future plans for the mills.

The nationally important Archive will be open to the public containing new displays and discoveries; a great opportunity to get up close and personal to the unique and vast collection at Sunny Bank Mills.

Alongside this, the mill will also play host to Rose and Brown Leeds Vintage Furniture and Home Fair, Aston Martin Rally, Open Studios, MAIA and Trouble at Mill Bar in the Gallery, Scrap Creative will be running children’s workshops, and the gallery will host Mel Davies’ new show, Madding Crowd.
