Done up North: Intro to Furniture Painting

In this workshop Nicky from Done up North will take you through the process of painting furniture with a contemporary smooth finish, as well as techniques for creating decorative, geometric patterns in her distinctive style.

This is a hands on workshop and you can either bring along a small piece of your own furniture to work on or we will provide you with a lovely large wooden box to paint and customise, which is yours to keep afterwards.
(If you are planning to bring an item to work on please email a photo to [email protected] in advance so she can have a look and check the prep needed. As a rule of thumb for size you should be able to carry the piece in one hand)

You’ll learn how to prep, paint and then finally customise your piece with a hand painted design created with masking tape. You’ll get a starter kit to take away which includes brush, tester pots of paint and finish and useful tools & tip cards.

You’ll be working with Fusion Mineral Paint, a specialist furniture paint that gives beautiful results and is easy to work with but is non-toxic, lead free, virtually odourless and has no volatile organic compounds (VOC) and contains no ammonia or formaldehyde. You’ll get a chance to use some of the 50 different colours as well as all of the amazing metallic paints in their range.

No experience is necessary and all abilities are welcome. Wearing clothes suitable for painting is a good idea or bring an apron. All other materials will be supplied.
Refreshments will be available during the workshop and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and get advice for your projects while you are painting too.
