Lampshade Making Workshop with Timid Elk
1st October 2016 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
£60The workshop demonstrates the process of constructing a 3D lampshade. You will start by developing the base frame for the shade. Then a 3D covering, constructed from hand formed pyramids will be produced. These coverings will be unique and will be formed from a selection of OS maps. The group will be shown the process of how to construct the pyramids, how to affix each one together to form the covering and finally how to attach this to the base frame produced earlier in the workshop.
Every participant will leave the workshop having produced a unique lampshade, suitable for a table lamp stand.
Timid Elk is a Wakefield based designer/maker. Originally trained in ceramics but found more joy in creating the paper test pieces.
As a result, primarily works in paper and is currently exploring the theme of repetition in the curious commodities collection.
Repetition (noun) – occur again in the same way or form.
The potential that repetition can bestow on an item is fascinating; the most rudimentary of objects can evolve into something grandiose, something which far exceeds its previous status. It transforms the insignificant and overlooked.
Whilst each piece created is unique an intermittent sense of familiarity is apparent throughout the collection.
Time: 10am-3pm on Saturday 1st October
Price: £60 per person, includes lunch and all materials.
