Playroom in the 1912 Mill

15th August 2023 @ 10:00 am - 18th August 2023 @ 4:00 pm

Playroom is an interactive space in the first floor of our atmospheric 1912 Mill. We invite you to come create, explore and discover life at the mill. We have chosen activities which we hope will inspire all the generations!

There will be each day:

– A designated exhibition space for work created in our Summer School programme.

– A cafe and chilled out area to soak up the atmosphere and where you can enjoy refreshments and homemade cake.

– A mini version of the 1912 Mill designed and made by Sonia Moran, which acts as a giant loom.

– Interactive drawing games inspired by the Gallery’s exhibition ‘Definitions of Drawing II’. These drawing games encourage collaboration and experimental ways to draw.

– Build your height and age in blocks.

– The Leeds 2023 ‘Spinning Tales’ project will be hosting their workshops here before they showcase them in a big event on the weaver’s lawn of the 26th August.

Pop Up Archive, 10am – 12pm & 1 – 3pm:

– VR Mill Experience. Step back in time and explore Mill Spaces that no longer exist using our VR headset. Time travel around the Mill.

– Minecraft at the Mills. Ever wondered what a bakelite telephone or a yarn winder would look like if they wandered into a video game? Neither had we, but that’s all about to change!

– Create a GIF. Have a go at creating your own 3D GIF using a mobile phone and some unexpected low tech items! (Age 12 and above)

– Shade Test Challenge. To work in the Mills Dye Department you had to pass a Shade Test with only 2 mistakes.  How quickly can you complete the test?  Challenge your parents or friends

£2 suggested donation per person.

Open 10am – 4pm from Tuesday 15th to Friday 18th August. Drop in on the day, or prebook using the link below!
