Learn the techniques and process of stone carving in a two day weekend workshop.
You will be using the type of material and tools that every stone carver has used, from Antiquity to Michelangelo, Bernini to Rodin!
Learn how to start “thinking” in three dimensions and discover how to plan and create a sculpture of your own in limestone.
The course will take place outside, with cover in case of rain.
Attendees will need to bring:
Warm clothing that can become dirty/dusty.
Proper shoes/boots, if possible steel toe capped, but not essential. Need to be comfortable as you will be standing to work.
Work gloves (optional)
Hat or scarf to keep dust out of hair (optional)
Some form of inspiration, idea or target to achieve. Either a picture of a sculpture for reference, or a picture or object from nature, whatever you like!
Sketchbook and pencils.
Packed lunch (or can buy locally or on site at Mill Kitchen/Grumpy’s/Farsley Fire and Smoke/Saint Jude etc)
Sunny Bank Mills will provide:
Water/tea/coffee and homemade cake
Dust mask and safety goggles.

Dominic Hopkinson MRSS (Member of the Royal Society of Sculptors) with over 30 years experience as a sculptor, artist and educator.

Workshop and course bookings can be cancelled and refunded up until 7 days before the scheduled start date. As materials and equipment are ordered in advance, we regret that refunds cannot be offered less than 7 days before the workshop date. Please note that Eventbrite’s booking fee is non-refundable.
If we need to cancel the course for any reason your ticket will be fully refunded.
This workshop is due to take place outdoors, with maximum 8 participants once Covid restrictions have been lifted. We will be monitoring government guidance for any changes. Please do what makes you and others around you comfortable.
