Discoveries in the Archive – Menders

Menders were highly skilled at checking and mending any faults in the the cloth produced at Sunny Bank Mills. They used a variety of techniques such as invisible stitching and each piece of 60 metres would take days to check.

Sunny Bank Mills had a reputation for having the best Menders in the area because we produced a particularly fine worsted wool cloth. So fine in fact that it sometimes required magnifying glasses!
