The Archive at Sunny Bank Mills has been busy recently with its ‘Bring a memory’ project. Former employees have been to the Archive to be interviewed and recorded on film by artist and photographer Peter Harvey. We have had great fun listening to their reminiscences of life in the mill in the 1940’s. 50’s and 60’s. In this way, their memories will be preserved as an essential part of the Archive along with all the existing fabrics, artefacts and documents and we have a full and lasting record of Sunny Bank Mills’ role in village life over the years. Peter Harvey, who leads the project, will be exhibiting from May 17th at Sunny Bank Mills Gallery as part of the ‘Archive‘ exhibition alongside artist in residence Des Pattison and Pat Harvey. It will be a culmination of a year’s exploration of the memories and heritage at the mill and include installation, print and sound. A real must see for anyone with an interest in local culture. If you have memories or objects which you would like to contribute to the project, please contact Sunny Bank Mills on 0113 256 3239 or visit the Archive on the first Wednesday of every month.
