Highfield Prep School visit the Archive!

We welcomed forty, impeccably dressed year 2 children from Highfield Prep School in Harrogate this morning to Sunny Bank Mills. The Archive played host with us delivering my best attempt at a 6 year old guide’s to weaving wool with the help of some incredibly smelly raw wool, very sharp little minds and assistance from our fantastic Archive Volunteers. (Thank-you everyone, we couldn’t have done it without you!) Everyone then had a go at weaving, investigating the Archive and having a look at a now empty but very atmospheric textile factory, built in 1830’s when children under 9 could have been working, earning money for their Mum & Dad’s being bobbin-lickers (picking up empty bobbins from the floor!) The Children decided going to school would have been much better! Thank-you Highfield Prep School for making such a big effort to come to see us over here in Farsley, it was great fun and we look forward to seeing you again soon!
