These are images of Guard books;so called because they ‘guard’ the often fragile contents and are one of the many forms of reference used by the Mill whilst producing cloth. They are often big, heavy and imposing books containing details and samples of the designs and textiles and are a fascinating resource.  This particular Guard books reveal the diversity of textiles made for a vast worldwide market and fashion sense.
