Sport at the mill was an important part of mill life.  From cricket to football, each mill in the area had their own teams and played against one another. These sporting communities helped to build close relationships and camaraderie between the workers in the mill.

Along with these wonderful images that were donated by ex employees of Sunny Bank Mills, we also have a cup in the Archive collection which is something of a mystery.  Does anyone know anything about it’s past?  I am guessing it might have been from a sporting event but who knows.

If you have stories of sport at Sunny Bank Mills or maybe you were in a rival team we would love to hear from you. Please contact me at [email protected]
