If you wanted to work in a textile mill you really couldn’t be colour blind especially if you wanted to work in the Dye Department.  Here a few of the test used to check for colour blind that we have in the collection and kindly loaned by the Society of Dyers and Colourists.

They are a fascinating test which intrigues all visitors of all ages who visit the Archive. If you passed the test and were destined to work in the Dye Department a second test was used which looked more specific at shades of colour.  I think this would have been a hard test to passed and really shows the level of skill used in the Dye Department.  Do you think you could do it?
