Volunteer weaving experience

The lovely volunteers here at Sunny Bank Mills Archive were lucky enough to have a sneak preview to the new weaving workshops which are going to be taking place in the Twisting Gallery under the wonderful tuition of Agnis Smallwood. The volunteers had a great time experiencing how the looms work and creating a variety of weave patterns with some success.  We discovered it is rather difficult and physically hard work and those looms are very noisy.  It really makes you appreciate the skills of the weavers when you look at the fine worsted cloth that was produced on a hand loom here at Sunny Bank Mills which we still of samples of here in the Archive. Thanks to Agnis for all her patience and thank you to the volunteers for having a go. If you want to find out more about the Mill and the Archive the Archive is open Saturday 1st February 10-3pm free of charge alongside the Vintage Event taking place over the weekend.
