JANE FIELDER

Jane Fielder is an artist living and working in Bingley, West Yorkshire. Having trained initially as a teacher, Jane later studied art, including Textile Design, at Bradford & Ilkley Community College. She left teaching in 1999 to concentrate on painting.

She produces work prolifically. Her subject matter is varied, though certain themes run through her work. Finding order out of chaos, beauty from ugliness and the ageing process. She founded and ran the much loved Bingley Gallery for over a decade until 2019.

Born in Kent, growing up in Cheltenham, and spending her teenage years in lreland, Jane writes “l have never felt that I belonged to a particular place, but I have always loved Keighley, a small Northern town full of soul, near where I live. I particularly love the area around Dalton Lane, the gas works at Marley and the pylons stretching for breath across the valley. The whole area is a jumble of magnificent shapes. I decided to take photographs, play around with them and then print them onto half finished paintings.”

“Like life my art is a journey, I never know what will happen next – one thing leads to another – these pieces are about that.”

Highlights of Jane’s artistic career include regular solo exhibitions at Duncan Campbell Gallery, London and appearing on the plinth for Anthony Gormley‘s One and Other show at Trafalgar Square in 2009 and her 2015 solo exhibition at Gallery 8, Shanghai, following a 3 week residency in China.
