Ann Povey

Ann Povey first exhibited in Collections, 2018, and is a Gallery favourite. She takes old tools and repurposes them into works of art using enamel and the spoon as a vehicle for her creative expression. She is a Lincolnshire based artist, mainly working with enamel, wood, ceramics and glass.

“The found objects I use with the metal and enamel, often small and insignificant, used and forgotten, are the physical aspect of the work that is based on an emotional and nostalgic concept. I create cutlery and tools utilising the found objects as handles. These are enamelled in a variety of colours made up of many layers and several kiln firings. During these processes, the spoons are oxidised and polished and therefore rendered impractical for domestic use but are given a new role as a piece of decorative art that will, hopefully, prompt an emotional response.”
