Learn at Sunny Bank Mills

The Gallery and Museum & Archive offer a unique education experience, situated in the textile heritage site of
Sunny Bank Mills.

We offer bespoke workshops to inspire learners of all ages to explore the mills’ heritage and discover contemporary art and craft. In the Gallery we encourage creative engagement with modern and contemporary art and craft and highlight the wellbeing benefits of creative expression.

In the Museum & Archive we discover through samples of the worsted wool made in the mills and historical artifacts, stories and histories of the past and how these have changed the future for us.

There is so much to explore here, whether you are a school group, a community organisation or just someone eager to find out more. All our sessions are led by our expert and friendly staff, we work alongside teachers and group leaders to develop bespoke collaborative projects.

For further information or assistance with planning your visit you can contact our Learning Team on [email protected] (Art lead) and [email protected] (Heritage lead) or you can complete our online booking form and send it over to the team with any additional questions you might have.

Our workshops are bespoke to individual groups and schools please contact us to discuss this further. Larger groups (up to 30 participants) can be split into 2 groups and spend half a day exploring the Museum & Archive and the other half discovering the Gallery workshops.
