“From the age of 15 I have been passionate about life-drawing and have centred work on the human figure over many years. In my 60s I discovered the joy of woodcarving but my particular love is working in stone. I was lucky to benefit for a while from tuition and supervision from some skilled sculptors from Zimbabwe.

The sculpture in this exhibition took its shape from the stone itself, but also taps into my love of non European representations of the human figure. Unfortunately I am no longer able to carry on stone carving on a scale that satisfies me so I started exploring linocut as a more accessible medium which also satisfies my physical need to carve and my enjoyment of working reductively.

The prints exhibited here take their source from the female stone figure which itself embodies source of humanity.”
