Art-House – Home of Dis/Content utilises the interior of a dolls house to display miniature artworks reflecting on themes of domesticity. This new project by Artist Carole Griffiths comes as part of our Autumn Exhibition Vessel.
“My home has evolved into one of a studio, domesticity, and work. It has transformed into a place of survival, repair, and rediscovery. I am now burdened by my attachment to and intimacy with my home. In this vessel of mine, there is room for ambiguity. The intimacy of my reconstructed forms of kitchenalia allows me to expose my inner thoughts and moments of intensity through my small-scale acts of creating. I alternate between manifestations of relationships, materiality inquiry, and finally the producing process. The renewal of my ‘Art House’ is to present a vessel that shelters and articulates the image of mother protector, woman artist, and teacher, as well as present The Art House – A Home of Dis/Content.
Through the use of sculptural discourse and play, the abstraction and re-figuration of functional kitchen utensils and their re-display in a new enclosed environment allow exploration of conceptions of materiality and meaning. To clarify and begin to understand the complex nature of incongruous juxtapositions of domesticity and ritual, the significance of nuances and memory of the everyday experience is addressed through gestural habits of the ‘home-maker’ transcending through me as the ‘art-maker’ replaying acts of encounters of my conscious world.”
Featuring work from Carole Griffiths, Peter Blagg, Nicola Turner, Paula Chambers & Jill Journeaux.
