Illustrating through it all – Panel Discussion

29th October 2022 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

£5.00

We’re bringing some of the artists together from the Lullabies in Lockdown exhibition for a discussion about how they worked with their own experiences of becoming parents during the pandemic to create their illustration work. We’ll be talking more broadly about the power of stories, as well as exploring what displaying illustration work within a gallery can offer to sharing these stories.

Hosted by Nell Frizzell

Nell Frizzell is the author of the Panic Years and a journalist for the Guardian, Elle, Grazia and Radio 4 and others.

Matthew Hodson

Matthew Hodson is a writer, educator and illustrator from Leeds. Employing naive and expressive line work, bold compositions and playful graphic forms, Matthew aims to make work that feels immediate, irreverent and sincere. Growing up in the rural north of England, he is fascinated by natural phenomena, regional and seasonal distinctiveness and the mischief of untethered play.

Lilly Williams

Lilly Williams is an artist and maker based in Hull, working across media, with a central focus on comics and storytelling. Drawing is central to her practice, embracing wobbly lines, mistakes and spontaneity. Lilly is the author of Scaredy Cat Gets Pregnant, a collection of drawings and comics that explore her experience of becoming pregnant, giving birth and becoming a new parent during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Beth Duggleby

Beth Duggleby is a lecturer, researcher, maker and illustrator. She is the curator of Lullabies in Lockdown and hopes that the project will offer up ongoing insights into how illustration can be used for positive social purpose.
