These Northern Types Launch Party

Join us at Sunny Bank Mills Gallery for the launch of These Northern Types – the culmination of a year-long exploration of northern identity by Split, alongside a team of makers, printers, academics, writers, poets and musicians. There will be live printing, drinks, music and a bite to eat.
Come and be the first to print with our huge new People Powered Press – a giant letterpress printing press with a whopping new typeface cut from steel; spin our bullsh*t wheel of fortune; smell prints in inks made from chip shop gravy and curry sauce; and find out what happened when we tried to trademark The North.

What does it mean to be from the north – or any place – in a globalised world? Where the’s muck, is the’ still brass? Do we tolerate less bullsh*t than others? Has the St George’s Cross become a symbol of racism? Is making do and mending consigned to the history books? Where’s the line between being proud of where we’re from and making others feel excluded? What are we forgetting? Who’s using our fondness for the north to their own ends? Do you want gravy on your chips? Or curry sauce?
