Playing With Collage Illustration with Cáit McEniff

March 23 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

This workshop will focus on collage and paper cutting techniques to unlock new ways of making images. It will be a fun and relaxed workshop involving play, experiments and ‘happy accidents’.

We will do a series of short collaging tasks with the aim of loosening up how we approach illustration through analogue methods and simplification. We will experiment with the concept of Notan, use simple limited shapes to create pictures and have fun with how we can use our scrap paper to spark new ideas.

Cáit will bring in examples of her collage based work as well as books and reference material she uses for inspiration.

This workshop is geared towards people who want to try new methods of working to shake up how they make pictures. ‘Drawing with scissors!’

Artist bio

Cáit McEniff is an illustrator and textile artist from Warrington based in Leeds. Her work focuses on analogue ways of making pictures, celebrating craft, ideas and slowness. She is inspired by storytelling, curiosity and the natural world. In the last year of her illustration degree at Leeds Arts University in 2020, she started experimenting with how textiles can be used to tell stories. Working with fabric unlocked a new way of making pictures for her, prioritising shape, colour and intuition. After graduating, textiles became a large part of her practice, experimenting with how to translate her illustrations into large scale wall hangings. She now works as a freelance illustrator and textile artist with both sides of her practice informing the other.
