Ella Georgiou

Ella Georgiou is an audio-visual artist from London, currently based in Leeds. Using sound in conjunction with printmaking, her practice is process and experience based.

She uses technology alongside traditional printmaking techniques to develop works that spark sonic contemplation, to consider spaces and their sounds. The digital conception and manipulation of a primary collection of soundscapes, manifesting as an output of minimal, monochromatic etchings. Ella interprets digital images into her own stylised visions, which are supported by a regimented system of simple repetitive lines with a focus on tone and density.

“My practice orientates itself around Absence and Presence. Sound.

The creation, manipulation, translation, and representation of sound is a focus I explore. I implore people to recognise the sounds that are lost in the mundane, and to realise the beauty in those ignored sounds. Sound acts as a catalyst for human interaction. From composition to interpretation to reception; the variety of social outcomes from interactions with the sonic are numerous.

Drawing and printmaking are used as a vessel of physical translation from silence, into sound, into the visual realm.

I capture a lost sound. And solidify it into the tangible.”
