Nicola Rawnsley

Nicola Rawnsley is a recent graduate from Leeds Arts University with an MA in Creative Practice. Recent artworks explore her northern working-class identity in relation to today’s natural world.

In this series, Nicola uses the high-rise to epitomize the limitations she felt growing up in a restricted built environment. The birds are the freedom she desired with the oak canvas to represent the replacement of the ancient trees with domestic concrete structures that now dominate the natural environment. The artwork was created by using photographs to produce a monoprint as a base to paint upon.
