Managing to manage is troubling many. Many feel desperate and helpless. Whether chosen or imposed, constraints are part of being. The work confronts and personifies restriction and searches for spaces of/for release – internal and external, individual and communal. Supported by concepts of enchantment, animism, panpsychism and disguise, an ‘inner ancient self’ is immerging, wanting to integrate with earth and its cyclical nature. A shamanistic identity essentially constructed through research, gleaning of fibrous materials, creation of ancient cordage, construction of own fabrics and consideration for natural dyeing methods. Mindful of the creative footprint through re-use and selection of the biodegradable.
