Selena Corsellis

Selena Corsellis, originally from London, is based in Leeds. She moved to Leeds in 2020 to study a Foundation course, and then a Degree in Fine Art at Leeds Arts University. With a focus on traditional oil painting, she aims to capture fleeting moments in space and time. Her practice centres itself around shadows and light within domestic spaces, documenting moments that would otherwise be lost. Last year she exhibited in the Royal Academy Summer Show in London, and aims to continue making as she makes her move back to London at the end of the year.

Using traditional oil painting techniques, Selena’s work is inspired by ambiguous but intimate spaces. Although they are devoid of human form, these spaces are nostalgic, aiming to suggest to the viewer that these could be places that they have forgotten. While they overflow with light and shadow, Selena explores the conversation between the inside and the outside world through an interrogation of perspective and presence, pulling viewers down leading passages and capturing flashes of stillness that might otherwise be lost. Her aim is to provide moments of contemplation, encouraging introspection, rumination and empirical insight.
