August 26th, 2022

Back To Blog

It’s that time again and we are gathering ourselves for Heritage Open Days here at Sunny Bank Mills Archive.  The theme for this year is Astounding Inventions and we are so excited as the textile industry and the collection here in the Archive is full of stories to tell and people that invented the most incredible items in the world.

We are open to explore and share the inventions that shaped the textile industry and beyond.  Booking essential.

From the stories of the first synthetic dye in our joint display with the Society of Dyers and Colourists.  Henry Perkins’s accidental discovery of the synthetic dye to create purple.  Made famous by Queen Victoria and much more.

To the amazing National Heritage Lottery Funded Project Weaving the Web where we are aiming to make the collection accessible with the modern inventions in technology and the development of 360 photography.  Why not come and have a go at 360 photography for yourself over the Heritage Open Days and find out more about our project and collaboration with the students at West SILC.
