New discoveries for the Archive

In another area of Sunny Bank Mills these bobbins have been found a new discovery for our Archive collection.  These are called Name list bobbins and are the threads of polyester and cotton used to name the fabrics on the salvedge edge.

The salvedge edge is the tightly woven edge of a fabric. It prevents the side edges of the fabric from raveling or fraying.

Information and details of the cloth are also placed on this edge.  However, when the cloth is tailored this salvedge edge is lost from view.
