Jae Maries

A Hidden Life

The exhibition entitled Tailored suggests to Jae Maries a veneer that is put on to establish a conformity, particularly in a work/office situation. Here, employees feel the need to fit into a company’s image and consequently conform to the dress code.

In A Hidden Life, Jae Maries’ ‘Tailored’ jacket encases and covers up a different aspect of the employee’s life. This is their home life and activities that can occur on the weekends and holidays. So, the armour plating has been split and peeled back so that their hidden life can be glimpsed. However, in the work place, this tends to be kept in the background for various reasons. They may also feel the need for that extra veneer to strengthen their resolve when making difficult decisions in the company environment.
