Hand-Pieced Curves Workshop with Jenny Haynes of @pappersaxsten

13th May 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Spend an afternoon slow stitching curves with Jenny in our atmospheric Weaving Shed!

The quarter circle block has the name ‘Drunkard’s Path’. During this workshop, Jenny will talk you through the process of cutting, hand piecing, and pressing this versatile block and will show you many ways of using this block in your own quilting designs.

The materials and tools needed to make a few of these blocks will be supplied. For those of you who prefer to bring your own fabric and tools, see the supplies list below.

•Rotary cutter

•Cutting mat

•Fabric scissors or thread snips

•40w or 50w thread

•Thin sewing needle

•Six or more 5 1/4” squares (or a charm pack) in light and dark colours.

About Jenny

Jenny Haynes (née Nilsson) studied Pattern Cutting and Tailoring in Stockholm, before moving on to study Fashion and Textiles at the London College of Fashion.

She developed ‘Papper, Sax, Sten’, creating clean and simple, mid-century modern design for the home, whilst remaining faithful to her Scandinavian roots. This was recognised in Summer ’15 when Jenny was invited by the Swedish Chamber of Commerce, along with 18 other Swedish designers, to be a part of Heal’s Swedish Summer Exhibition.

In 2017 London’s V&A, along with the publishers Thames & Hudson, asked her to contribute to the book ‘Patchwork & Quilting’ – the first publication of their Maker’s Guide series.

Jenny has had her quilts and patterns published in numerous magazines and and two of her quilts won awards at QuiltCon 2019 in Nashville.

When Jenny isn’t designing her curvy and quirky quilt patterns, she teaches at the V&A as well as giving talks and workshops for Guilds and textile venues in the UK and abroad.
